Why so high reunification fees for person who got citizenship after June 1, 2010?
June 1, 2010 onwards - $168.00
It looks like Indian governement is trying to snatch money from foreign citizen.
It is very much baseless. Before June 1, 2010 nothing($20) and after $168.
Every one shoul object to this new rule/move.
Let us do it.
This has been discussed in couple of threads extensively.
Besides, someone's got to pay for the beyond the budget CWG expenses

And the service sucks too.. It's been 10 days since i applied and no letter yet. It took almost the whole day in the consulate for 10 minutes work of work.. inefficiency at its best.

I think this topic was discussed ad nauseum but I am unable to resist to comment. $168 to surrender your Indian citizenship? I can understand the penalties. You do something illegal according to the law of the land then you have to pay. But it doesn't make any sense for a base fees of this magnitude.
It is not as if they have to do lots of processing. You are basically declaring that you are not a citizen of India any more and they are giving you a paper saying "ok, we get you". Why do you need to pay such a steep price for that "privilege"? Ridiculous.
Comparing that with what the Canada or any other govt charges for some other service is irrlevant and meaningless.
On top of that see the procedure and the instructions! You don't even realize that there is a "special" time of after 4pm ONLY at VFS. Ridiculous.
This poll is not fair? Options are one-sided.
I think consulate should charge $20 fee (or free) for this certificate (if this certificate is really required - not sure why?) and increase the OCI/PIO fees by $100/$200 and streamline the process and provide better service.
OCI/PIO are like permanent residence for foreigners and they should charge $400-500 for it (may be they should issue card similar to PR card). Come on guys, most of you can afford these fees (when we are ready to pay $1000-2000 for PR card/green card/Aust/NZ PR). I agree process should be more clear (though I found OCI process to be simple and service excellent - CGI, Vancouver).
In general, service sucks with all the countries embassies (for foreigners).
