Why do they have weird price Tags such as 9.99,99.95, 1999.95 and so on in Canada (And probably in US as well) ?
Agreed that after you add GST & PST , the price is never a round number.
But still an innocent question from a newcomer to Canada. Please enlighten...
maine suna hai ki canada mein bahut tax dena padta hai...is it true??
I am still wondering about answer to the question in my previous mail copied below.Any veteran Desi who could reply?

I remember in India we have prices of bata like 19.95.
The logic is the figure looks smaller. If they want to sell something for 8 dollars they will put a figure as 7.99, so your (the customers) first impression is that the price is $7 and so it is cheap.
You can say that you can't fool customer like this. But tell it is really happening. When I was new to this country, my wife use to speak that hey - this is just for two dollars and I was always adding one dollar on top of that!
Just marketing logic!
If you are new to this country - you will see more and more such "legal" but "scrapy" marketing tricks then what you were seeing in India!
Be careful!
