However, we are looking to get a puppy for his 3rd b'day and would like some ideas from all you pet owners.
I'd like a small to get a medium puppy as we don't have a very large play area ... any suggestions on any small non shedding breed. Puppy is preferred so both the babies can grow together!

My entire family loves and wants a dog but I am resisting getting one... and reading Prince's and the other posts is a reminder to why I do that.. it is another child in the house

larger dogs are often easier to handle when you have small children in the house. A lab or golden retriever is very popular as a family pet because these dogs intuitively protect children and like to play. They are patient (generally) and tolerate small children's noisiness and rough play.
Small or medium sized dogs (medium might be ok, depending on the breed) tend to be more 'babied' or finiky dogs themselves and may not easily tolerate kid's attention.
I have *3* dogs of different sizes - big, medium and small. I dont have children. However if I did I would go with a larger dog.
