President of Guyana ? Barrat Jagdeo born in UP.
http://www.op.gov.gy/

we feel proud of him , i am sure Guyanians feel the same way , that is why they elected him.

So can we accept Sonia ? or let Guyanians be better than us?

Mishtar India,

You do a lot of research before posting any thing and I like that. But sometimes in the hurry of posting an answer, some details are missed.

I visited the site with the link you mentioned and what I found that the President of Guyana, Bharrat Jagdeo was not born in India but was born in Guyana itself. I am pasting below a part of his biography I read on the same link. I hope that Demerara is in Guyana and not in U.P or Bihar?
___________________________________________________________
[Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo became President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana on August 11, 1999. Until then, he was the Minister of Finance.

His Excellency, Bharrat Jagdeo was born on January 23, 1964 into a working class family at Unity Village, East Coast of Demerara. His father worked on the railway service once operated by the Transport and Harbours Department and then the Marine Section. His mother tended to a garden to help provide for their six children.

Unity/Lancaster Villages, where he grew up, were and still are predominantly fishing and farming villages. The area truly represents one where the two major ethnic groups live in harmony. This fact would have undoubtedly, had a lasting influence on his social and political outlook. He is unapologetically committed to building national and racial harmony]

The question is that most of the western countries which include Italy and U.S.A have this in their constitution that the person sitting on the highest offices of the President or Prime Mininster has to be a natural born citizen of that country and not any one who has become citizen by naturalization.

I was reading somewhere in an Indian Newspaper that there is a technical glitch in Sonia Gandhi's becoming prime minister because the Indian Citizenship was granted to her on a reciprocal basis (with the same rights as any Indian Citizen who takes Italian Citizenship would have). Since, Italy would not allow any naturalized citizen to take up the highest post, hence on the basis of that technical point Sonia also would not be eligible for the highest post. However, I am not sure whether that hold water or not.

Let's see what happens next week. So far, it looks that the stage is clear for her to become Prime Minister.

Well you can not compare Jagdeo with Sonia.... and Canada is a country of immigrants so if an immigrant become MP is not a big deal.. don't forget India is not a country of immigrants.. so you can not compare Herb, Deepak and Rahim with Sonia as well.

And I think CDs must be aware of one more fact : Indian citizenship was forced on Sonia by Indira Gandhi as Sonia was not ready to surrender her Italian citizenship in favor of Indian citizenship.

Jagdeo can be compared with Portuguese of Goa who immigrated to India quite a few generations before. I am sure if someone become PM from Goa no one would mind at all.

It is must be a shameful situation for Cong. (I) that such a great and historical party do not have any well experienced and seasoned leader to lead the party.

Thanks and regards.
