Hi,
I am a landed immigrant, planning to move permanently to Vancouver, BC early next year. Being on the wrong side of fifties, I am keen to start something on my own, rather than to attempt to start a career in Canada at this belated stage in life. I have been following the discussions of CD for a while and find that most of the active participants in the discussion are from Toronto area. However, I am sure there must be CDs from Vancouver and nearby locations as well, who may not be active contributors to the forums, who also can possibly help me with ideas about starting a business there. I would, therefore, request anyone with knowledge of the local conditions to guide me in planning to set up a business there, including quantum of personal funds to be invested (the lesser, the better), possibility of obtaining loans and subsidies by a new immigrant, type of business(es) that offer low or medium risk and moderate returns etc. As additional inputs, let me add that I am a senior HR professional with international exposure in HR and recruitment functions, with a fair amount of exposure to Financial Management functions as well, and has a son who is a Web Development professional already in Vancouver, trying to set up his own business.
Proposals for joint ventures also are welcome. Please feel free to PM me if you need any additional details.
How much are you wanting to make? Will it be at an average $10 an hour or $ 25 an hour or $ 50 and above an hour of work that you invest in.
You can either open up a convienence store, lottery kiosk, Francise, real estate, Labour supply firm etc…
Are you fixed on Vancouver b’cos you son works there? Canada is a risky place to do business. You could lose all your money (97% of the time)
Sincerely,
Red
