You are right that Indian Government won't be able to know about your Canadian Citizenship but there is a little catch
When you take Canadian Citizenship Oath your landing paper (IMM 1000, if I am not wrong) get de-faced. You may travel to India on your valid Indian Passport but certainly you won't be able to leave India with the same passport as you won't be having any valid visa to visit Canada.

You're right Biomed...but I guess that's a problem only if you do not have a Canadian passport. Having got citizenship of Canada, I could get a Canadian passport. So now I have two passports - the old Indian one that is yet to expire and the new Canadian one. While going to India I would use my Indian passport, and coming back, the Canadian passport would let me in. I realize that's cheating but nevertheless possible..right?

Good.
and guys please dont try this childish attempt of "cheating' any country by doing illegal things.
You may run into one hell of problems you cant imagine.
Remeber when you leave or enter a country your passport is stamped. If those dates do not corresspond well some day you may have to cool heels in prison.
Secondly when you reach india on Indian Passport you will be treated as an Indian Citizen at the airport. Which means customs will ask you to show how did you leave india? what kind of visa you had when you left. Since the canadian govt stamps passport when you first arrive along with IMM info, it will take only a second for him to realize that something is a amiss. if he does not find a valid IMM form in your passport, you will be in BIG trouble.
It aint worth it

DIE HARD !
Agreed. Lafda nahi chaahiye.
But having taken the oath this month and still keep the Indian passport (till I get the Canadian passport) and travel to India? I have a visitors visa to USA stamped on my passport.
Anyways, I will have one more chat with the high commission this week.

If you can, wait till you get your Canadian Passport. If not than I would suggest buy a ticket from the US to & fro India, don't even mention canada anywhere. I am assuming that you have valid US visit visa on your valid Indian Passport to re-enter the US.
Thanks and regards.
