I am planning to start home base business for Clothes, Wall pieces, Handicrafts etc...idea to start business in basement with small inventory for safe side.
anyone have idea how to import goods from India? or some good agents here or in Gujarat India to import products from India?
Does anyone know cheapest shipping company?
Any good input about marketing would be much appericiated.

Go to shops selling the kinds of items you plan to sell and make detailed price notes..... Then resource these products on Indian exporter websites for selling price.... Research inward shipping costs with couriers/shipping companies that specialize in cargo generating from India. Do the math. Add percentages for breakage/inventory carrying cost/tel. Cost/ other costs. Actual will depend on number of pieces/ time etc. Importing yourself may require licenses/permits. You may need to incorporate.
To start with - I would suggest you find a local whole seller from whom you can get goods on "jhaangad"....while your profit might be less- you will know for sure whether this business is suitable/viable before you end up making any investments.

RBO . If you ever decide to venture Home based business , you MUST register it with your home insurance co . This is in case you are expecting any customers to visit you . It has to do with liabilities shall something happens to customer while at your premises .

Sorry that I am honest but this kind of business will not survive in the GTA. There are simply not much takers, unless it is a novel idea like a dollar shop or the like.
There are many players in the GTA who have bankrupted themselves in this route and in opening restaurants (as Sankaracharya aptly found out).
Please think out of the box.

There are 2 ways to do this..I mean one on a very small scale where you sell the stuff on personal contacts like contacts thru community/friends/family..where in you are limiting your business..You can even try sellling on kijiji, amazon, ebay etc at the same time.
Now if you are planning to get all imported from India etc, then you will have to apply for the import licence, complete all the formalities of business, register business, get insurance , file quarterly taxes etc. and I am not sure if you can do that out of basement/home.
As Geeta suggested start something on small scale to taste the waters, if you feel you can do better then go ahead and take the plunge.
Just because there are many in the market does not mean that you cannot survive or else there would not be any businesses.
Not sure if you looked at alibaba.com site where you can buy the stuff in wholesale and sell it retail.

Planning for selling unique handicrafts items like, wall hanging peices,hand made shawls, bedsheets, kurti, Handbags with embrodery, etcc..
