I am applying for a Canadian passport for my child. In the guarantor section of the application form, one of the parent can sign as a guarantor. I just want to know if there will be any issue if the other parent can sign as a guarantor while all the conditions for the guarantor as per the document are fulfilled. Is there any possibilities that PPTC can ask for different guarantor? I just want to avoid doing all that exercise again. I just looking for the responses from the people on this forum who experienced such a situation and one of the parent had signed as a guarantor.

---------

BOTH OF YOU SHOULD HAVE A PASSPORT AND ALSO HELD THE SAME FOR ATLEAST TWO YEARS... see below, IT is good to have a passport that has not expired. (More than One Year)

PPTC DOES ASK FOR A DIFFERENT PERSON. SEEE BELOW. If you are going the PPTC route, then, you have to have a sworn affidavit. See below how to get one and complete.

Here are the specifics :
Family members

A family member or any individual residing at your address may be your guarantor provided he or she meets the specified requirements*. If you are the parent or legal guardian applying for a passport for your child, you cannot act as guarantor; however, the other parent can. (YES)

Declaration in lieu of guarantor.

If you have not known an eligible guarantor for at least two years, complete form PPTC 132 "Statutory Declaration in Lieu of Guarantor" available from any Passport Canada office or by telephone.

Important: A person listed as a reference on the Statutory Declaration in Lieu of Guarantor cannot be listed as a reference on the passport application.

The "Statutory Declaration in Lieu of Guarantor" form must be sworn to or declared before, and signed by, a person authorized by law to administer an oath or a solemn declaration. If completed outside Canada, a qualified official includes a Canadian or British diplomatic or consular representative, or a qualified local official

*Eligible guarantors

Your guarantor must:

Hold a 5-year or 10-year Canadian passport that is validFootnote 2 or has been expired for no more than one year, on the day you submit your application;
Have known you (the applicant) personally for at least two (2) years.
In the case of a child, the guarantor must have known you (the parent or legal guardian who is applying on behalf of the child) personally for at least two (2) years and must have knowledge of the child;
Be a Canadian citizen 18 years of age or older;
Have been 16 years of age or older when he or she applied for his or her own passport;
Provide the requested information contained in his or her passport;
Be accessible to Passport Canada for verification;
Live in Canada, in the United States or in any of the other areas where submission of the "in Canada and in the USA" application form is authorized (Bermuda, American Samoa, the Midway Islands, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands). It is not necessary that the guarantor reside in the same country as the applicant.

FH.
Edit.
If the child is a new born, then, there is no way one knows the child for two long years.

Thanks Full House.
I have already read these guidelines and the instructions in section M of the application form. All the conditions are met by one of the parent to act as a guarantor. Both parents are Canadian citizens for more than five years and hold valid Canadian passport. My concern is that even in such case PPTC still ask for an alternative guarantor. Since in the application form it is written as "PCPCIC reserves the right to request an alternative guarantor". I just wanted to know the CD experience who have undergone such a situation.
