Move to a different province perhaps Alberta .. you can have more tax savings since there s no provincial tax ..... and probably rents would be cheaper as well .
Take a weekend job .. since most stores have heavy rush on weekends , I assume they would need more hands on the weekend.
Reduce your cell phone /internet / India calling by being smart .. Use FTA antenna in stead of TV subscription.
Register on various websites like factorydirect , xs cargo , old navy , groupon and you can get your deals on email..
Have more kids ... your child assistance income would increase.
Drive a cab on weekends or after hours... cash income can come in handy.
Be frugal.

On taking the inspiration from it, I am not so sure. The protagonist had a skill set that he took advantage of. The OP hasn't yet disclosed what skill set does he have , and his current expanses.
