Couple of weeks back they were demonstrating electric vehicles like Tesla , Volt , Leaf @ Dundas square ... Curiously when I inquired , they offered me a test drive . I chose Nissan Leaf which I had always read about .
The drive was wonderful . Silent - no engine noise and I did not experience any lack of power also ... Loved it .
Ontario Govt. provides a $8K discount on it which brings the cost to $22,000/-. At a battery charge lasting up to 135 kilometers , it should be good for with in the GTA .. They do have 1700 charging locations across Canada but need to be more for people to take the cars long distances .... but with in the GTA , the charge should hold good.
How do other CD s feel about the electric vehicles ? They displayed from Tesla to Chevy to Hyundai to BMW to Porche , but I had heard a bit about Nissan Leaf and the test ride did not disappoint me.

Fido.
Good article.
Is it available commercially in the GTA? What is the cost for recharge. How does it compare to Petrol or Diesel. What is the maximum speed that it can go. Does it go the same speed as that of a petrol car ?
Main problem will be the cost of repairs. Any technology which is recent will have higher operating expenditure.
It will be great for CEO's to buy this and flaunt that they are helping the economy.

In winter, the range will drop due to multiple factors like using the heater in the car and also car has a heater to keep battery warm if temperature drops below -17 C. Ideally you should have access to charging at work and indoor parking at home where you can plug the car in overnight.
