My kids are Dual citizens of both US and Canada but residents of Canada.
The elder in grade 9 is showing a lot of interest to move south for education, most perhaps ending up living there.

Apart from zeroing specific universities and preparing to Fulfil the academic requirements, financial readiness, what are the things to think about?

How helpful the U.S. Citizenship would be ?
How deterring the Canadian residency would be ?

The major advantages of USC are:

1. No immigration issues in the US (to be a student or beyond).
2. Avoiding international student fee rates.
3. Potentially in-state fee advantage (depends on universities' definition of in-state).
4. Eligible for merit based scholarships that are exclusive for USC and GC.

Dis-advantages of Cdn residency: None except possibly not being able to get in-state fee (that could happen within the States themselves).

Advantage of dual citizen: study and work opportunities in both countries.

That being said, in general, fee might be more expensive at US universities compared to Cdn universities (just $ to $), and perhaps much more expensive depending on the dollar exchange rates.

Dimple explianed well ..
About school fees in US, they will have the same problem. ... though they are citizens, they end up paying out of state fee ( more fees), unless they can prove they are residents of a state.

To save the tution fees and enjoy other benifits, they need to establish residency in one state ( either canada or US) where they will be going to the university.
