My PR will expire this year end. I will be just completing 730 days a month before expiry. Once I apply for PR renewal, can I visit India. As my PR will expire while I am in India, how can I then re-enter Canada.

Or do I need to be in Canada till I receive my new PR Card.

About Six months prior to your tentative date of travel, you can get decent fares and cheap seats also. Contact a good travel agent and fix up a flight. Get the e-ticket and make a couple of copies. of the e-mail with travel details.

Get all of your PR renewal ready with pictures and payments. There is an URGENT route with which you can get your cards a little sooner, but do it when you are making the application for the renewal. I am sure you can apply a few months before for the renewal process as I do not see any difficulties with your application for the renewal process. Three months is a good and sufficient time to receive the PR Card before your travels. But you must go to the center and pick it up in person when you get their letter for the pick up. So provide ample lead time for that.

If per chance you do not receive the same, then you can apply for a Travel document in India just after landing there and they will issue to you one to return back into Canada.

What ever you do, please have all of the COPIES of the paper trail and the fees paid etc., on you when you are making the trip.

Hope this helps you to get prepared in advance. Some links are posted for you to read under this.

I have applied for PR card renewal and they have send me an email on 1st Oct 2016 that my processing is delayed for review .they say " a preliminary review of your application has been completed. Your file has now been referred for a secondary review".So when will I get my PR card as I need to travel to India .

Only the people who have gone through the process will be able to tell you better. My guess is as good as yours. Now the delays are inevitable.

If your trip is way out into the future and you can postpone the same, you will have to see your file number from the response that was received and correspond with them to expedite the same, providing them with the reason and the circumstances.

If you had come to us earlier, we would have told you to spend that extra sum for speeding up the process and ask for a fast response. Now you are at their mercy.

See if you can postpone the same.

FH.
Side note. : If you have completed your 730 days, you have nothing to fear. Give it a good two months time, for them to play with it. fh.

Today received this letter from CIC - it may helps you.

See below:

La version française suit le texte anglais.

Hello,

Our records show that you may be a permanent resident (PR) of Canada. This email is a reminder that you must present your valid Permanent Resident Card (PR Card) or permanent resident travel document (PRTD) when boarding a flight to Canada.
Canadian permanent residents who do not present a valid PR card or PRTD may be denied boarding their flight to Canada for not having the appropriate travel documents.

It is your responsibility to ensure that your PR card is still valid when you return from travel outside of Canada. The expiry date is printed on the card. If your PR card is expired or will expire within six months, you should apply now to renew your card.

• If you are in Canada and do not currently have a permanent resident card or your card is expired, find out how to apply for a permanent resident card.
• If you are outside of Canada and do not have a PR card or your card is expired, find out how to apply for a permanent resident travel document (PRTD).

Plan ahead and check the processing times to receive a valid PR card or PRTD before your next international trip.

Please note that if you believe you no longer meet Canada’s permanent residency requirements, your permanent resident status must be resolved before you can apply for a visitor visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). For example, if you choose to give up (renounce) your permanent resident status, you can then apply for an eTA or a visa. Learn more about your residency requirements and your options as a permanent resident of Canada.

We encourage you to share this information with your family and friends as we want to avoid Canadian permanent residents experiencing travel delays because they don’t have the appropriate travel document to board a flight to Canada.

Thank you,

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada
