Any suggestions for an active cell phone connection on board while travelling on cruise, and on land in Alaska.

The best I know is that on water, the ships provide satellite phone connection for a sizeable amount of money. I believe you'd have to use the phones available onboard the vessel.

From land on Alaska, I'd tend to think there would be cell providers/towers installed by the US cell service providers. If you don't have the right plan, you'd incur roaming charges.
