I am a Canadian citizen who will be joining a Canadian employer with offices in both countries.I am expected to implement IT projects at client sites in Michigan & New York. which could be every other week in a month.

How would the US Immigration admit me into the USA? I do want to declare the I am engaging in providing technical services at various client sites. My new bosses travel back and forth betwen both but the only engage in sales and business meetings.I am a technical consultant and that is my job title. My family green card is due in the next two to three years.

Regards

What you need to know fully is here in this link. It will be difficult to do a summery and expect you to enlarge upon it. Hence the link. Did they permit you to apply for the Green Card. If so when? How long after you landed there in MI or NY? (Just for my info)

Ask your Employer to state everything in his letter to the Immigration there. You produce that letter to the I.O. at the border Crossing. A few have done that at the airports too, prior to boarding. Prepare well and land there a few hours before to get the approval and stamping. For renewal do it in MI or in NY. (Locally)

Good Luck.

Full House Thanks for the reply.

I am asking the forum members in my situation is it ok for me to declare that I am visiting a client side for proving technical consulting.I dont have any TN or L1 or H1B.I will be crossing the border on my regular CDN passport.

This will be an added advantage for your employer, because he also has a branch of his firm there in U.S.A. He has the privilege of moving his employees to USA for streamlining and organizing too. This provides him with additional privileges which he should further explore in his advancement of the operations and he even can base a few of his own emploees there. (Either in MI or in NY) That is upto him.

U.S.A. has opened their doors for people who want to expand their operations there in their land and open up employment to the natives there. IT has top priority.

The way the Immigration policies are written, crossing the border for business purposes enters into a field of its own. So, a few of the Border Agents there in USA who can wield their authority over anyone can one day stop you from this crossing. Hence the request to you to normalize this crossing the border through proper Immigration Channels, which your Human Resource in Canada should explore rather than take chances the way you are currently doing. They might have access to a lawyer too who can guide them.

Hope this answers your major point.

Good Luck.

FH.

Thanks for the reply. What would be the 100 percent legit way to solve this.

My business card will officialy say "Technical Consultant" and I will be engaging in providing professional services.

I know what you are saying is use fancy words as "meeting" or "sales coference" or "training".

I have had TN and H1 before as a "computer analyst" (bad categories (;-)))I am just trying to avoid this conversation completely.

I want to check if I can cross legit and use Nexus where I dont even have to do that. My brother in law is swiping his Nexus card on H1 and flies evey other weekend back and forth.

From what I am reading L1 is the best option.Simple and easy.Thanks.
