Dear CD's,
I have to visit India in an emergency as my dad is quite ill. In the past, I have always had family pick me up from Delhi airport. This time around, the situation is different and I will need to take a cab to travel from Delhi airport to my house which is located in West Delhi. Can someone please guide me on the taxi options available at IGI. I heard there is a prepaid option and also some radio taxi cabs but not sure where and how to get them. Are there any signs outside the airport for taxi locations? I won't have an active phone connection at the time of landing there as I don't have a local SIM, so I can't call an Ola cab either. Please let me know the safest option to travel by taxi from Delhi airport. In addition, is it hassle free to change dollars to rupees at the airport? Thanks.
Depending upon the destination, the rates do vary.
Here is UBER or OLA and see if you can contact them. OR ask some one to help you at the Delhi end with it.

FH.
Then there are others at the terminal #3 Arrivals Forecourt.

IIRC there s a prepaid taxi booth operated under Delhi Police supervision. You should be easily able to locate it if you ask some uniformed person or may be a porter also.
How it works or used to is that they will ask you for the address and you will have to prepay there itself based on some fixed rates they have. In return they will give you a receipt and ask you to hand it over to the driver once you have reached your destination safely as the driver can claim money only on the basis of this receipt.
Do not hand over the receipt before reaching your destination.
If you decide to hire a porter from your luggage area , he should be able to guide you as well.
Others can share their suggestions also.

Fido.
If you are travelling light with baggage you can handle yourself, metro could be another option. Check out at - http://www.delhimetrorail.com.

Your best bet is prepaid taxi at Delhi Airport. Uber and Ola require a local cellphone number with data connection.

Thank you everyone for your inputs.
On the website for Delhi airport, it says they have a relationship with 3 taxi operators namely Meru, Mega, and Easy cabs. I might take one of these. Anyone have any experience using their services?
