Hello,

I've noticed in the CIC website (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5772ETOC.asp) that, the sponsor has to submit an undertaking that no social benefits will be taken from government for 20 years. Does this social assistance cover health coverage?. My parents are ~70 years old and used to go to clinic and hospitals regularly for check ups and treatments in India. If I bring my parents through PR, does those expenses (health, dental, eye) will be taken by the provincial/federal govt?. I live in Alberta province. All other supports like housing and other basic needs I can provide to them. It doesn't matter to me, if govt doesn't provide pension as well. If no health coverage it will be difficult to keep my parents with me for the rest of time.

I would appreciate if some one can provide an answer for this question.
If no health coverage, then want would be an alternative solution.

Thanks in Advance.

If they come here as PR, they will be covered by Alberta Health Insurance, doesn't matter whether you sponsored them or not. They will have the same rights to Health coverage as any other PR in Alberta, irrespective of sponsorship.

Sponsorship has nothing to do with it. In fact they will have better health coverage than you , especially when it comes to eye and dental, as some services only children and seniors get.

But they can't get welfare. If they go on welfare, as a sponsor the gov. will make you pay for it. Technically they can even get welfare, but the gov. will force you to pay them back whatever they take from welfare, since you are the sponsor & Guarantor.

Pension like OAS + GIS also they will get. But they will have to wait 10 years for it. As you have to spend atl east 10 years in Canada before you are eligible for OAS & GIS.
So when they are 80 their Old Age pension & GIS will start.

As of today its at least, $ 1,000 per person, so 10 years from now its probably going to be more. Why you want to lose that money ? Its's your and your parent's right. It's not welfare, even White rich old people take it, so should your parents.

You say that your Parents did go through a lot of tests and examinations through a Health care system there in india. Keep that expense amount in the reserve and slowly build up a fund. You can add a few bucks to it from time to time and if an EMERGENCY arises, then use it.

I have known Hospitals saying that they do not cover Crutches, Sun Glasses, Nebulizers etc., so, if ever the need arises you are free to rent them also and pay for it and return them after their usage. Some are pure expenses. You need to bear them. They might need a Blood Pressure Kit, a Thermometer to take temperature, remotely. Other over the counter Meds, that are NOT COVERED etc., all of these are to be taken care of by themselves.

In alberta, they have a good coverage for all of these, but they might also limit them and some times let you use their services in trickles. All of these are games the Insurance companies play. But it is a very good service by any standards. You might not get single rooms or semi private rooms it could be ward service. All of these can be discussed with the Alberta Health people and get their booklet from then and read it first. Then ask the questions that might arise after the reading. Each Province is different. Hence the suggestion.

AND DID YOU READ BETWEEN THE LINES. HERE IS MY QUESTION. 1) IS YOUR JOB SECURE? If not, then they are telling you NOT TO DO IT. Alberta is riding the teeter totter and their economy is in the DUMPS. So, take it as a stating point and and make a start from there. In short, be careful and weigh all of the good and bad points and be guided by your valued judgment and prepare well. Do not disappoint the Elderly Parents who will be there with you for the rest of their lives.

Here is a little bit of Information.:

Dental and optical assistance.:The Government of Alberta provides premium-free Alberta Blue Cross Coverage for Seniors for health-related services not covered by the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP). This coverage is available to all Albertans 65 years of age and older and their dependants.

Supplemental Health Coverage..: Please see what is made available to your PARENTS There. This was for the year 2016. Contact them and find out what it is for this year and Keep Track of it from now on.

FH.
Social services sum up to Roof Over their heads, food and clothing, heating and hydro etc., you can get a liSt* from them. Alberta Health Coverage is the BEST in the land. As far as I know, it is totally free for the seniors. You are LUCKY. (Also them) Please contact them.
