I am a frequent flyer on Ethiopian Airlines and have accumulated reward points (ShebaMiles).
I had made an online reservation on the airlines website using ShebaMiles for one-way ticket to Toronto. I had redeemed 70,500 miles and paid the required tax amount.
I was not allowed to board the flight at the airport of origin, as the counter representatives informed me that the Ticket was not issued. Please note I had a valid booking and PNR (booking reference).
I had to travel by another airlines on the same date by booking at an exorbitant price equivalent to CAD 1,800.00 for one-way travel. I had no choice but to reach Toronto to catch up with important office meetings and assignments.
The ticket was not issued by the airlines and I was penalised for no fault of mine.
The airlines has refunded the 70,500 miles back to me.
What is the recourse I have in this case for the huge financial loss and mental trauma, anxiety and embarassment I had to face at airport of origin.

I recently planned to go to India. the travel agent gave me reservation and confirmation code etc.
when i went to airline there was no ticket issued. i had to travel a day later with 500 dollars more fare
Airline agents at the airport check in counter cannot do anything without a issued ticket.
You need to email, send a registered mail of the same letter, ensure signature received, save all this information, the miles you spent, the email you got that your miles are returned etc.
you email asking them for compensation.
once you have all this info and add their response and go to court. there are many lawyers willing to fight for free if they are offerred a share in the compensation

Was an E-Ticket number actually given to you ?
Sometimes they just give you a PNR number & Itinerary print out - without any actual E-Ticket number or Status : Confirmed.
Airlines are notorious for overbooking flights and then bumping off passengers, especially the ones who book on Air Miles or other discounted tickets.

If you have only Booking Ref. not going to help you need to have a confirm ticket number.
