Hello All,
Need your guidance.
I have a PR resident of Canada and my Indian passport has expired for 2 years now. While applying for a new one, checklist says that I need to provide for a receipt of search letter. I need to know:
1. Search letter for what? Is it for my current immigration status?
2. If yes, do I need to apply for search letter as I already have a PR?
3. If I need to apply, where and how do I apply?
Please help.
Please provide them with all of the details that they ask for in the form and PROVE that it is YOU who lived at that Address.
First and Foremost. They need a letter from you, NOTARIZED by a Notary Public giving them a VALID Reason why you did not apply prior to Expiry. (Explaining the delay)
Then THREE plus ONE "Copy of the form given Below with Pictures" giving all of the details asked by them, and PROVING that you are the one who lived at that address (With Pictures) and the Local POLICE Certifying the same. You may please Provide Copies of the Lease Agreement or Rental receipts etc., by the LandLord also, to make your search an easy one. (Giving particulars of all of the places that you lived) Now do it seriously and get on the job.
THAT IS THE SEARCH LETTER that they are LOOKING FOR.!
That is not all of it. You must fill out the Application for an INDIAN Passport and also Attach the Passport Pics and Pay the FEES also. Please get additional Copies of the Pictures as you will need more.
If you need any additional help, please drop us a note under this, in the the same thread.
Good Luck.
FH.

I have valid reason of not being able to apply on time.
But I do not have any rent agreements or receipts of my last 4 accommodations because I lost one, the second one is just a plain paper acknowledgement and the the remaining two I was staying at my relative's place. But all these while I have been working and I should be able to gather that information from my employer in Canada. Will that suffice?
Thanks again.
You are correct in saying that you only have plain paper documents signed by the Landlord. or the recipient. That is enough for the Police Check. Even a letter addressed to you at that place on an ENVELOPE will tell the Cops that you did reside at such and such address. Then there are other documents. such as Driver's Licence, Health Card, Bank Statements etc., You can blank out the other material with a black marker on the COPIES to the Police.
All of this is to comply with the requirements that you have to fill in the form, which is the location where you lived. Proving gets simple with one such DOCUMENT.
Employer's letter stating that you worked for them or STILL Employed with them will be a good start.
You also have a Valid reason for the delay in requesting for a NEW RE-Issue of the PASSPORT. So, prepare a letter and get it Notarized.
Every little bit helps in proving that you DID LIVE in Canada.
Do it as soon as you can, because you have NO CONTROL over the other Delays.
Hope this helps.
FH.
