Hi Friends,

I am in Toronto on PR and have a B1/B2 visa for USA.

I am travelling from Toronto to Mumbai and have a 9 hour lay-over in JFK.

I wish to take a quick tour of the city instead of idling on JFK airport.

Can anyone advise me the procedures / formalities to pass thru immigration at JFK and then again board the next flight to Mumbai.

Do I need to inform at the time of check-in at Toronto about my plans to exit JFK airport during the layover.

There is a "PRE CLEARANCE" section for the US in the Pearson Airport. Please go and visit them there and find out if you can obtain the clearance there with them for the 6-7 hours you have. Also, get a TOUR for the duration of your stay, tentatively booked before you approach them for the clearance.

You need good Three hours for you prior to departure. They might waive it if you pre clear before boarding. Make sure that your baggage is booked straight through, that will cut down one more step and you can board direct. Also, talk with the Airline ticketing and get your Boarding pass for the flight out of NY. You have to be on top of all of these things and get your ducks in a row for availing a Quick Tour of NY in your Layover period.
