soberflier and atulgs,

Excellent posts by both of you. If every Indian is aware of the need for good manners, discipline and the right attitude, the next generation of Indians will be better than what we are now.

Cheers,

Ayaskant.

Success

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded. Bessie Stanley

Hi all,

Just check this one out from Outlook mag.

NEW DELHI
Hey, We Don't Mean To Piss Off Mantriji...

It probably wasn’t what he had in mind when Manmohan Singh agreed to be PM. But with his ministers behaving like unruly schoolboys, the good doc is increasingly forced to play the role of schoolmaster to keep them in line. On Wednesday, he had to rebuke rail minister Laloo Prasad Yadav and chemicals and fertilisers minister Ram Vilas Paswan for calling each other names, including chor (thief). But ministers who trade insults in public is the
least of Manmohan’s embarrassments. Last fortnight, he pulled up MoS for home Sriprakash Jaiswal for an even more atrocious misconduct: the minister was caught by a news photographer taking a leak on the runway at Leh airport. Jaiswal, who was accompanying home minister Shivraj Patil on his one-day visit to the Valley, apparently couldn’t hold it till he got to the airport rest-rooms just 500 metres away. Or, he decided that he couldn’t be bothered. Strolling up to the wall nearest to the defence enclosure of the runway, the VVVIP did what men have been doing from time immemorial along urban walls. In the prim language of municipal authorities, "he made a public nuisance".

No stink would have been raised if an alert news photographer had not captured the moment and published it in a Mumbai-based daily. The report and photograph landed, as all such reports do, on the PM’s table. He was not amused, according to one daily, which quoted a pmo official as saying: "Maybe banning public leaks by ministers should be made part of the code of conduct." But with ministerial misdemeanours multiplying, the incident seems to have been given a quick burial. PMO officials preferred a ‘no comment’ on whether or not the prime minister took a serious view of his minister’s airport manners. With ministers like Manmohan’s, who needs the Opposition?

Excellent replies from atul and sf

Atul, I know exactly what you mean as I have visited Tanzania as well.

It is remarkable with such short supply of material and wealth, how these people muster up smile to welcome guests. I will never be able to forget those "Genuine" smiles and the "Karibu" (welcome). It all comes so naturally to them.

In smiles and in the greeting department, I am afraid Multi cultural Canada, also falls far far short. It has much to learn.

Sure the Universities and Colleges here teach us how to say hello, how to firmly shake hands, how to meet other people by having an eye contact, smile etc. etc. But in most cases the look in the eyes gives away the fakeness of the whole thing.

It is amazing how a country like Tanzania manages to arouse the trueness of these basic, simple and natural human acts.

I believe these kind of human life lessons can only be learnt by travelling and seeking.
