Dear Friends,
I wanted to specifically know the conditions for obtaining permanent residency in Canada after landing with respect to the number of days/month/years of stay is required.
In other words,
1)After landing can i return to India (for a few days and go back again)after 1 month/2 months/3 months/4 months/5 months /6 months?
Probably with a PR card.
obviously to complete pending assignments.
2)Do I require a continueous stay of 1 yr/2yr /3 yrs in a 5 yr period?
3)The 5 year period is calculated from my passport or day or landing and stay in Canada or what?
I shall be highly obliged if you could inform to me specific information on the above.
Kindly do the needfull and oblige.
CAPRICO

Hi Manasvi ,
No, I havent been so lucky since 1.5 years to have a vacation , but I have been following the posts on the form regularly, only had enough time to read the ever growing number of posts and discussions and be a silent participant. BTW, I am working in the Middle East these days for a short project.
I do not know a definite answer to your question, but the cic website says the guy in such a situation *might* lose his PR status.
Ref. "You may lose your permanent resident status if you fail to comply with your residency obligations"
I personally think if he has a canadian born child, he can appeal for his case and probably win, in the interest of his canadian child. Ref. "If you have not been able to comply with your residency obligations, officers can take humanitarian and compassionate concerns into account when making residency determinations. Officers will consider the best interests of a child directly affected by the decision" This is Canada! not some other middle east country. I came to know of rights and existence of a government for people only after coming to Canada!
Again, this is just my interpretation, and I think for your question you should consult the cic guys directly via their hotline.

The links provided are really true life experiences.
But can one take the risk of staying in Canada after landing for 2/3 months, return to India and then go back after 2/3 months? And may keep on doing so?
Just a possiblity!

To keep your PR, you have to be in Canada for 2 years out of 5 years. "You must accumulate two years of physical presence in Canada in every five-year period."I have read nothing that states you have to live X amount of time countinously in residency obligation page of cic.gc.ca
Do you have some plan like this one?
