I have been to a town called Temagami. it is a few hours north of North Bay. the temperature was -35 when i went. it is incredible that people actually live that far north. there are many factory jobs (mostly in the timber industry), mostly held by franco-ontarians and native canadians.

a friend of mine dropped out of school and moved there to work: the pay started at $14/hour but it is heavy work. Most of the inhabitants turn to alcoholism, and domestic violence is quite common.

all plumbing is heated as the intense cold freezes even water pipes.
the snow mobile is the only way to move around. you cannot even use a car because of the road conditions and the intense cold.

however, if you're into winter camping, it may be fun for a short visit!
