Do you see any benefits to buying an LCD tv in India? there are no HD channels. And SD channels are better (a lot of the time) on CRTs.

If you are heavily into watching movies then perhaps it makes sense. I recently advised someone to get a tube TV for these reasons...

Thanks.

For one thing, with the start of DTH transmission by Tata-Sky and Dish TV, the quality of transmission is a lot better than standard cable.

Other thing is that, with Microsoft having started to sell Xbox 360 in India and my planning to get into selling xBox 360, this may help me in selling the product.

Rgds.

Rajan.

Sounds like you have good reasons for investing in a flat panel TV :)

AFAIK, both Samsung and Sony are leaders in the LCD tv space. I don't think you can go wrong with either.

Here's a personal experience....I am no expert in lcd tvs in that I have not calibrated sharpness, warmth etc on my TV. I currently have an LG and I am more than happy with it in terms of the picture. I paid a lot less than a comparable Sony/Samsung and have no regrets. The warranty here is 2 yrs...as opposed to the std 1 yr warranty.

If you are choosy about the number of DVI inputs etc. then it may be worth spending the extra but if not, a lesser 'name brand' may also satisfy your needs.

Rajan,

Is the response time of the TV 5ms so that it is good for gaming ?. What is the price of a monitor/HD ready TV with HDMI and all the other inputs in INR inclusive of taxes for both the 32" and 37" TV's.

What is the price of XBOX 360 in India?. Is Nintendo Game Cube, Wii and the Playstation 3 officially available in India and if so what are the typical prices?.

I usually watch the Gadget Guru segment in NDTV 24 7 with Srinivasan Jain and the other guy for info on stuff in India.

Another site I found very good from Canada is the dottotech site which is also a TV program where they introduce new gadgets/technology and explain it in simple English.

Thanks for your response in advance.

"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

Prices are crashing as nobody's business.

The value for money deal in the market currently for LCD is Samsung 52" TV 540 Series.

Currently available in the market for about 1399 bucks + taxes.

All the major LCD TV's of Sony, Sharp and Samsung are made in Mexico with the picture tubes coming from the same company.

The picture clarity, mix and also the value for money as on August 1, 2009 is Samsung.

LED is still settling down but the prices are not crashing like the LCD's.

Christmas 2009 may be a good time to buy a 52" TV.
