Hi All,
My parents are Canadian PR and will soon be eligible to apply for Canadian Citizenship.
Question on mind is :-
As currently they are entitled to Pension in Mumbai (retired teachers from Maharashtra Government)
Once they accept Canadian Citizenship and OCI from India, will they be still entitled for full Pension (Basic + D.A.)?
Any experienced individuals please guide.
Best Regards,
Kas

With the OCI card, you should also get the same privilege as any other Indian to have an N.R.O. Account. As regards DA, since the year 2006, if the allowance exceeds 50% of the salary, they have merged it with the BASIC salary. So, you will have to see where it currently stands with the recipient. Also HRA was given too, so, if you maintain a residence there, you might be able to collect the same too. All of these are features that needs to get studied from their PENSION Booklet. A cursory look into the same will throw more light on the subject matter. Alternately google into their pension scheme and obtain all or most of the details from their own website.

FH.
You will have to have a minimum of 10 years stay before you can get any basic OAS pension or any GIS here, from the Canadian Government. There are Social Service Agencies that you can contact for the additional relief here and your Parents can also make an application for subsidized low income housing as soon as they can. A talk with some one in the City Hall will hep with all of the paper work.
