Hello friends,

Need suggestions for parent visitor insurance. My parents will be visiting Canada early next year. My father will be 80 years of age at that time. He had a stroke last year and was hospitalized in India for few days. Fortunately he recovered and his is condition is stable now. He is taking a regular medicines for Neoro, BP and cholesterol. But considering his age, I don't want to take any chance here. As his age will also be 80, I understand that insurance companies will be charging very high premium. Need suggestion as

1) Should I buy travel insurance from India or from Canada
2) Which is the good insurance company that can cover 80 year+ age
3) How much insurance coverage I should go for?
4) Any other suggestion before he travel , like documentation of previous hospitalization, doctor note etc that can help in insurance claim if any thing happens here.

You will be sure that your Parents will be taken care of by the Insurance Policy that you purchase, if the need arises, when you purchase it locally, because they can call and get all the details about the policy and can obtain the exact requirements and procedures that they have to perform under the policy guidelines. Also, please make sure that they are covered when they are at an age of EIGHTY (80). SOME POLICIES DO NOT COVER beyond that age.

When you do, please make sure that they are covered by a separate Policy before leaving India, or prior to their journey, in the AIR also. (Just in Case)

If possible, please carry a Medical Dossier from Indian end, with all of the medications prior to the incident and After the recovery and The list of medications that he is currently on. Please carry sufficient Meds for the duration of their stay and please CARRY the prescription along with the supply.

Please get a POLICY that covers EXISTING CONDITIONS. (Some will cover if the period of occurance was SIX Months or longer.) Also, please see if the coverage continues, if they cross the Canadian Border also. Some will not cover outside and some will consider that they left the country. All of these are very peculiar and they use these gimmicks to avoid paying for services.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada often requires proof of emergency medical travel insurance before a visitor's visa is approved. It is not a mandatory requirement in Canada but the trend is Immigration Officers are requesting proof of insurance.
