People desire development: Chhattisgarh governor

Raipur, Feb 18 (IANS) Chhattisgarh Governor Shekhar Dutt Monday said that the Raman Singh government had made "all possible efforts" to give shape to the people's desire for development and peace.

"My government has made all possible efforts to turn the public's dream of development into reality, as a result of which all the sectors of the state have witnessed steady overall progress," he said in his address to the state assembly on the opening day of the budget session.

"And I not only wish but believe that the collective efforts will lead to overall development in all the sectors and thereby, make Chhattisgarh a leading state of the country," he said in a lengthy speech marked by repeated interruptions by opposition Congress members.

"I am glad that everybody is discharging their duties with full dedication and responsibility. It is because of these combined efforts that Chhattisgarh has set new milestones of development. I wish this journey of progress continues," added Dutt.

Reacting to the unprecedented raucous response of Congress members to the governor's address, Chief Minister Raman Singh said that they had transgressed all traditions of the parliamentary set up.

Legislative Affairs Minister Brijmohan Agrawal also criticised the opposition members for their unruly behaviour.
