New Delhi, Feb 20 (IANS) The National Human Rights Commission has sought from Chandigarh a report over the alleged malfunctioning of emergency wards in three government hospitals, a statement said Wednesday. An NHRC statement said: "We have taken cognizance of a media report which was forwarded by Avinash Rai Khanna, Rajya Sabha MP, alleging that emergency wards in three government hospitals in Chandigarh were not catering to critical needs of patients properly." "As per media reports, patients were getting lost in the hospitals due to lack of coordination between the staff. Medical personnel on emergency duty were missing," the statement said. "The pathetic conditions in the government hospitals are deplorable and if immediate remedial steps are not taken, the same may lead to loss of precious lives. Right to health being an important human right, the commission deems its duty to intervene in the matter," the statement added. Three hospitals found erring were Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16, and Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32.
