I phoned CIC today and got to know that my Card has been mailed today and will receive it by the end of this week.So now i can plan my trip to India. I am wondering if it is ok to fly to India with having 2 months validity on Indian Passport..My plan is to get my passport renewed in Delhi...I have heard some airlines need 6 months validity on the passport else they wont let that passenger board the plane or immigration officer in India create fuss on that also sometimes. Pls share some info on that also..:-)

This is the reason you need a quad band phone from here when you travel to India. Secondly most of Indian "manufacturers" get their phones from China, though some companies have set up facilitate recently for manufacturing in India.

   ...I guess you can use your debit cards/credit cards in India. However, PC will charge you a foreign transaction charge of upto 3% per transaction. In addition, it may be safer not to use your Canadian card in an Indian ATM. the best way is to have a NRE account in India. You can fund your account using any money transfer service like Money2india or remit2india. You can then use the debit card that you get with this account for transactions. If you dont have that, another option is to use travellers cheques and encash it at any bank.

   ...Hi friends I seek guidance on how to deal with buying of expired items by mistake , which are on sale at attractive prices. What are the rules governing the sale of expired stuff on shelves? I did buy Indian naans from the No frils , to realise it was already expired . I returned the same without any issues, however it was then I saw so many items on sale by the same store on the shelves , this rather careless approach of a reputable chain store did surprise me.

   ...my parents might be visiting me during summer. they are 70 & 65 respectively. i am wondering if I should get medical insurance for them. is it better to buy from Indian or get it here? if it is bought from india is it accepted here or can a claim be made only once they go back to india? also, what's the deal with coverage of pre-existing conditions? both my parents have chronic diabetes and my dad as chronic BP. can anyone recommend good visitors insurance plans either from India or getting here? please share any experien

   ...software but couple of questions/doubts are in my mind. 1. I am asked for residence status. i.e. Province of residence as on Dec 31, 2006. Logically i put in non resident. 2. With non resident as my status, do I have to disclose my Indian income too? And since we file returns in India in June, I wouldn't be getting the Form 16 till april/may. I do have pay slips if CRA wants documentary proof. Even after disclosing my indian income , I still get entitled to a refund. 3. Software says I have include GST credit recieved in 2005 as income in 2006? Thats weird.... 4. Tired to use NETFILE but most softwares say I cant use NETFILE if I am not residing in Canada. 5. Where to settle: Corruption in Canada

   ... talk about corruption by politicians in India, the recent political imbroglio in Canada has brought to fore the fact that corruption among politicians exists on an equal scale in Canada too. Newspapers also bring forth scandals of bogus licenses (there was a driving school in Calgary which was busted & which was unfortunately run by an Indian). The good thing here is that certain processes are streamlined here & at a lower level you do not see corruption here like the way we see in India. I would like other people to come forth with corruption issues that they might have faced in their day-to-day life in Canada. Thanks.

   Montreal: ...was a bit cold / snow but not that bad. Other points to note : Gas was 99.4 cents to 94.4 cents in Montral. Compare that with 79.9 in the GTA YWCA Hotel was very near Maharaja Buffet. The YMCA Matress had bed bugs in it. Montreal is generally cheap in Food costs/ cost of living. Highways inside town have speed limits of 50 km/hr to 70 Km/hr. which is a joke. Parking garages in Downtown have no one in the booth even at 9:00 pm. Had to search 2 hrs to find a 24 hr. one (on the fear of the car being towed away). The receptionist at the YWCA told me to park free of charge at the place where there was no one in the booth. I refused. People are less shy in Montreal (esp. Males with female...
