Our Native Country!: Bank FD rates in India
Started by: desi in ottawa on 04 May 2007
...nts (money maintained in INR) are the only accounts that can possibly offer these rates. The principal in NRO accounts is non-repatriable; the interest can be repatriated. The bank will withold 30% of the interest amount on the NRO account. You will have to file an Indian Income tax return to get a refund (if you have no other income in India). It can take as much as a couple of years to get an IT refund in India. On top of that, the interest is considered as a part of the world income and is taxed at the marginal tax rate in Canada. Have to weigh in the cost of doing all this versus the money you would expect to gain.

Financial Planning: Advice: Non declared funds in India
Started by: gsrnew on 16 Sep 2017
...han 50 % of your income is going in various taxes in Canada. Why pay these fools more ? Canada likes to prey on immigrants money and International student's money. That's pretty much their only economy, besides selling natural resources like oil from the dirty tar sands of Alberta. Don't pay any penalties and taxes on your hard earned Indian money in Canada.

...So for the common man India is still not "Shining" ?
Originally posted by Iceberg Loser Babu, If you compare Indian prices with the power of the CAD everything will look cheap. Compare it with what it was a couple of years back and the affordability of the same by a common man who earns not even "$2" per day.
Originally posted by Loser 80 Ruppes that is 2 $ . It is not bad to have a full meal for this amount. Cannot get a fullmeal in North America for 2 $.

It actually helping me a lot in making decision. Life: And we say there is no racism in Canada

Indian is a mess when it comes to holidays. They have so many holidays for every damn thing that it crumples the economy (but I like the holidays). Canada doesn't offer any religious holidays except for Easter and Christmas which are so old that they can't really change them. Infact more companies and government bodies make sure they try to call the Christmas period as "Seasonal greetings" or "happy holidays" .. though I know that does not make sense, but they are trying to remove the christian sentiment from the holiday season. Apart from this I think religions get equal status. Yes religions don't have the same popularity as in india but thats a different matter. ...
