It takes me 10 minutes via TTC bus to reach to the subway(downsview). 10 minutes sounds a lot, but it is just because of the multiple stops rather that because of distance. As already mentioned Indian stores are in Islington, but there are other grocery shops nearby. just yesterday we went walking to a 24 hour dominion for icecream around midnight just because I got one of my 'urges'. Is this the best place to rent?.. No idea, but so far no complaints. In the limited time that I had to search for apmts, this was one which was closest to our criteria for cleaniness, budget and proximity to the subway. Souvik...

The statutory charges will be in the range of Rs.30000 (Depends on the quantity of goods) + Bribe (optional). May be if it is Mumbai port or Chennai port, bribe might be less/nil. All the best. Peace

...lso good stability. It takes time and struggle but at the end , things work out if you want them to. The things that worked for us were networking with the right people and applying for jobs day and night and the will to move and be flexible about location and $$$. Our white circle of friends worked out as good for us as our Indian n/w but that is just to point out that you should network will all and not only Indians or immigrants. There is not a lot that we have lost after moving from California to Canada except paying Higher Taxes ... But life is good and we cannot complain .. ...

My Point is ... if you have house in metro then 15 lac is (barely) enough, but if you have to buy a house in Indian market right now (which is as HOT as ever) then I think 15lac is not enough. India presents its own set of expenses, which is unique to say the least. I know couple of Families who moved back. They both had good job here n moved keeping social n family life in mind. They are happy, with what they wanted to begin with - but that social life has some cost associated with it. Don't over look that. ...

... keep it updating, I also believe that we all have multiple sources to get that information. What we can do is post here some useful links and tips for prevention, and survival. Being desi means our main source of grocery supplies is from Indian Grocery Stores and with limited international connectivity many of our items are in short supply. If we can provide help in locating sources with availability it will be helpful. Anything else that can help members is appreciated.
