Financial Planning: DEMAT account

...st post. Too much hassle. And, unless you are one clever dude, I don't see you making a huge profit in the Indian market given today's reality. If you make short term capital gains (buy and sell shares at a profit within 6 months) you will get a TDS deduction of 11% applied immediately after the sale and the remainder is your profit/share money. After a year, a good broker will post you a TDS statement. As an NRI, you will have the option of opening 4 types of accounts (2 of which are wholly Repatriable and non-taxable but the shares you can invest in are limited to A and B group shares ) and (2 are Non-Repatriable and taxable but the shares you can invest in almost the entire spectrum...

 Started by: roland_poly on 23 Jun 2015

I would be staying at my relatives place for initial couple of months (that would save me home renting costs) so is it possible to carry just $ 2000 in cash and show them the remaining funds from bank statements in an Indian bank account? Because I can wire them later. I ask this to check if the bank conversion fees of INR to CAD can be avoided. Also, I am afraid to carry the cash / draft incase I loose it during travel. Thanks Roland

   ...
Originally posted by Hasni Dear FH, thanks for your time and must say you are doing a great job by helping others selflessly. As I told you that I have to appear in G road test now and I do need some classess. During my initial landing I met an instructor, fairly popular one in Mississauga who wanted CAD 600 as a package deal including classes and test on a remote area where failure chances are considered very less. I understood what he is upto and politely refused him. ...

...them too) I agree that People like evangelicals while they might have very little influence dont go there without a reason. There has to be some good reason. The west is a land of businessmen and nobody does anything without having some motive. What it is is anyones guess. So I would say Burgers no good = because it is bad food. Conversions no good = because it solves nothing. I would like to see missionaries who convert poor folks to Atheism. ...

Sports: Can someone explain to me why Dravid did not enforce the follow-on?
Started by: BlueLobster on 12 Aug 2007
...me your answer is YES: Then I would assume England can do the same on Day 4 and first session of day 5. because pitch is better on day 4 compare to day 5.
Chasing 500 runs when its a target to win is a different story than playing out day 4 and day 5 in a follow-on situation. Sure, the Indian bowling attack would've been tired. By the same token, with such a big lead England would've been totally demoralized. And India would've been on a high. That psychological advantage would've been enough to make sure that England would not have tried anything ambitious on day 4 or 5. Their goal would've been just to bat it out. Would've been easier to get them out that way, esp...

Life: pros and cons of dual citizenship with India
Started by: duncan on 21 Sep 2005
Ottawa _ Nerd - Good information: ...Hats off for compiling all facts together . Yes , I always suspected that an unrestricted dual citizenship will never be given by the "south block" babus.. TO put it simply, a dual citizen should just be able to retain his/her Indian passport . That is all . They can choose to use whichever they want while travelling. Of course our "babus" will never allow such "freedom" .. Otherwise what is this "registration " / "Certificate" / "restricted rights" / " 4 months waiting" .. all new process carved out to keep themselves busy an...

General: Travelling to India - Customs Duty Help
 Started by: parimal24 on 30 Dec 2007
...Hello, I just got my Canadian PR and will be flying to India on Jan 2nd. I have purchased lots of electronics such as MP3 player, digital camera, Hair grooming kit etc for family. As I make my plans my friends warned me to keep some dollars aside to bribe Indian Customs. The link here: http://www.immihelp.com/nri/india/travel/ gives a fair idea of the Customs Duty and the embarkation form shows I can carry RS 12000 worth of goods without paying duty. How do I carry my goods which are clearly above Rs 12000 to India without paying duty ? Please advise … Thanks
