I love India and remain Indian forever, it’s all destinies and I have already mentioned that circumstance changes life approach. I do agree the sys/network admin and software jobs are offshored to India or other developing countries. In spite of this you got a job in four months and with 6 figures so there are chances. This seems to be positive. Meanwhile I have researched from my end there are certificate/diploma courses (System/Network Analyst) available in different colleges and are partime/online with 6-12 months of duration at a very genuine price. This happened to me a lot so now I have decided to focus my energies and thoughts on some crucial issues. For example how to do barbecue every evening, how to listen to Classical Western as well as Indian, how to enjoy motorcycle riding a little more. I have found that more we think of career , promotions, more it makes us scared and depressed. Jobs are a plenty in Canada - it is the money and the position which causes the concern. Sometimes I think the remuneration we earn are based on Neil- Rutherford atomic model. There are certain orbits like 35K, then 50K and then 70 K. Now to change orbit...

One of our drawbacks as people of Indian origin (probably applies to all humans) is we don't initiate anything ourselves, but get in the way of people who do. I knew nothing about Anna Hazare last week, this video provides a good introduction. There's probably more to his story, but at this time, I think he needs support as opposed to cynicism. If you use registered post from Canada, it is trackable on India post website but not on Canadapost website after the letter leaves Canada and reaches Indian port. Downside is it is not trackable in all the countries. I once sent a letter to UK by registered post and it took a full one month to reach and it was not trackable on Canadapost or UK's postal service website. I do not think it was anything to do Canadapost's strike since the letter had already left Canada weeks before the strike started. ...

If one goes to buy a decent sofa set in Delhi it is nothing less than 1800 dollars on a lower end. I am not talking designer stuff...So in todays time depending on which city one plans to move to India, actually many things are far cheaper here. The fees that students pay for most general colleges/university does not pay for all the costs associated. To be fair, post secondary education in Canada is also heavily subsidized. However, the Indian govt. does provide lots of other different types of subsidies that are not applicable to Canada, such as ration system. India also has a very large defense budget compared to Canada.
So here atleast those taxes are used to give Free education till Grade 12 & Free healthcare, better than going to some corrupt politicans or officials pocket.[/q...

Life: India is facing 'cultural fracture': Naipaul
Started by: dhshpatel on 19 Nov 2006
...http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/364418.cms BRUSSELS: Nobel laureate V.S. Naipaul believes that India is heading for a cultural clash between the city dwellers and the village population. "People in cities are turning their backs to Indian civilization. They want green cards. They want to migrate. They want to go to England. They want to go to the US", Naipaul told mediapersons at the Centre For Fine Arts, Bozar, here. "There is a fracture at this moment of great hope for India. A fracture in the country itself. It is possibly quite dangerous at the moment," and added that the c...

Life: why so attachment with US?

I do not know how desis in America live, but for me, it is difficult to detach myself from the political scenario, and live a secluded life concentrating on just making money. Second, in Canada, you are an Indo-Canadian. You can be as Indian as you want, and as Canadian as you want. It is a cultural mosaic. In US, you have to be a part of melting pot. I refuse to give up my identity. Then there are minor issues - minor to most of people, major to me. I cannot count in gallons/lbs/miles/Farenheits. I cannot spell colour or humour without an \"U\" :-). As an Indian, we have inherited the English language skill...

Our Native Country!: This can happen only in India
Started by: tamilkuravan on 21 Jul 2005
...Since caste is involved (although nowhere the article says the men were of upper caste, it says they enjoyed political patronage, but from which party), it does represent some of Indian culture. In North Bihar the problem is quite acute. Incidents like these occur everyday, some where upper caste people are at the receiveing end. My uncle who is in police in North Bihar (North of Patnay;) ) says North Bihar is virtually free of communal problems, all the violence is mostly caste based. If this happened is the west it would be the equi...

Most of them were either a first generation or second generation Canadians. However, in social activities they had wine and cheese parties, vegetarian food potlucks, theater, Casino Rama and poker. They never planned for Raptors games, clubbing, Maple Leafs. So are they Canadians or Jews????? (many of them being from Russia and Poland). B) There were three ladies who planned most of the activities - the eldest and most impressive of them being one who was about 75 years of age. We invited her to our place, and she invited us to hers f...

I am looking to develop new friendships, getting to know more people etc. I am a guy, 27, hailing from the southern Indian city of Hyderabad, which as we speak, is ushering in new developments and is taking quantum leaps and jumps in welcoming relocating Indians from different corners and corridors of the country. However I do not repent moving here but it's just the atmosphere I saw there as I would like to divulge in myself over here. Any people of my sort, single or not, and are ready boot my company are welcome to call or e-mail me for a chat. Any attempts to include me in their social guilds (so called!) would be appreciated. Insurance: Are there Insurance policies without middlemen

   ...
Orginally posted by VJ Dear Shah_mn, As far as I know, we do not have to pay for OHIP. But it would start after the first 90 days of your landing. I mean you can apply for OHIP after 90 days. Hence, its advisable to go for a 90 days health plan from any reputed indian/canadian insurance company. In my openion, due to a sudden change of weather, one can always be prone to illness, hence its better, you have a cover booked even before you land in Canada. Regards, VJ
You can "apply" for OHIP card as soon as you have documents like address proof but you will get the card only after 90 days of landing. If you get ...
