'Canada's housing boom over'.......: ...s on a seasonally adjusted basis in May, the most on record and a 2.2 per cent increase over the previous peak in April, according to the real estate association. "The six-year housing boom has indeed fizzled and the poor winter results were not just weather and holiday related," BMO Capital Markets analyst Robert Kavic said in a note. "The breadth of the declines is eye-catching." Nationally, the average price of a home is $337,071. With an increase of 1.1 per cent, prices are rising at a pace below the inflation rate. Rasoi & Restaurants: Sarvana bhavan- South Indian Cuisine
 Started by: guju_canadien on 24 Oct 2003
...Ok, I checked it out. It was really good. There's a lady wearing a Tamil-style saree who greets you with a Vanakkam as you enter. The decor of this restaurant reminded me of India so much, its not even funny (one example, wash-basins at the back to wash hands :D ). The overall decor is somehow very unlike other Indian restaurants in Toronto. I don't know how to classify it exactly but you'll know what I mean when you go there. It was quite a lively atmosphere. I went during lunch hour and it was pretty packed (about 40 people or more, mostly South Indians). Service was reallly good too. The menu includes a whole variety of dosas or uttapam(ranging from $7 - to $9) or you ca...

How is that a TTC ticket collector sleeping on the job can add $80,000 to Canada’s GDP while an Indian ticket collector adds $2,500 (Re. 100,000) to Indian GDP? Anyway, China has changed the entire game and though not acknowledged as number one super power officially, business world knows that. (Do not misunderstand me. As far as wearing white/Black for weddings goes, it is common in all north Indian cultures(not sure of South) to avoid these colors. However, it is mainly taken care of by the family who has to sit for the pooja and guests are free to wear these colors. So IMO if you have some dress which is white or black but has some embroidery/dupatta/stroll in different color..you are good to go`! I like to go for vibrant colours for a wedding...its more feminine.
I can see that there might be confusion about this...I'm married to a Punjabi but he nor his family go to Gurudwara. Not only is this kind of writing difficult to decipher, but it's time consuming to try to read and the poster is hindering their chances of their post ever being read, understood and answered properly. Also, when you write like that in a public forum, you are perhaps telling the world, this is how I write normally. It's hardly professional, and so...

Our Native Country!: Got a job offer at Ahmedabad worth INR 15 lac, seeking advice to move back?
Started by: backtoindia on 04 Dec 2010
...ve me people are not the same now here. You can only trust your parents. People have become more materialistic here. It is very hard to find true friends here. It is very hard to find work-life balance. Workplaces is full of bad politics. I have also read somewhere in CD where senior CD’s are praising Indian education system as compare to Canada. It can be true but this is also adding additional pressure on small school going children. Lot of cases reported where a young students goes on depression. Is this the kind of education pressure that we want to put to our children? People are full of aggression and stress. They are ready to fight on every single minute while driving on roads. It i...

Jobs: Good Salary in India or Canadian PR?
Started by: manty on 12 Jul 2009
   ...
Originally posted by manty Guyz, I lived in canada for 5 years, now working in India with good indian sal, but canadian pr would expire if i dont move back in next 1 year, which means i have to sacrifice good job or canadian pr. Any thoughts?
I assume you haven't moved here earlier because you had doubts about securing a well paying job here. During this recession getting a well paying job without prior Canadian experience will be even harder. From what I have seen, it takes immigrants quite a few years to get established and move into a well paying bracket...

... chandresh The question aint dumb - but the fact is that South Indians mainly drink coffee and not tea, while north Indians mainly drink tea - they drink coffee at times which is more social.........or how to put it........when they specially want to drink coffee, unlike tea, which is out of habit. Chandresh
Yes... but why? what if I am a south indian who loves tea and cant stand coffee? Why is it so easily generalized?
I can answer your question if you clarify what does generalisation mean - or rather what percentage of a statistical sample giving a specific result would you need to make a generalisation acceptable? Life: Is Stéphane Dion a dual citizen?
Started by: desi in ottawa on 05 Dec 2006
...Many canadian citizens obtain a passport ONLY for convenience. They still get to vote and decide the future of Canada. Most posters on canadiandesi consider themselves Indian first instead of Canadian...they still go cast their votes. Atleast Dion has never participated in the French vote. Dion has an established public service record in Canada. He is also the brain behind the 'Clarity act', which virtually makes it impossible for Quebec to secede. He is decisive too. During the 1995 referundum time when Quebec politicians were striving to play a balancing act, Dion whol...
