The way I worked it out, there was just a difference of 50K rupees or thereabouts in annual savings, in favour of the Canadian $$$, after accounting for all expenses including flight tickets. Having said that, it would be much easier to move to a significantly higher paying job in India, where as in Canada I'd very likely stick to my current employer for another 2 years at least until I go through the PR process and thereafter too the salary was not expected to rise significantly. Thanks for the encouraging words - they surely help :) ...

Even then the Japanese did not spend (habits don’t change, even with taxes, do they?). Their traditional postal savings alone is over $1.2 trillions, about three times the Indian GDP. Thus, savings, far from being the strength of Japan , has become its pain. Hence, what is the lesson? That is, a nation cannot grow unless the people spend, not save. Not just spend, but borrow and spend. Dr. Jagdish Bhagwati, the famous Indian-born economist in the US , told Manmohan Singh that Indians wastefully save. Ask them to spend, on im...

Practically everything you do will have to change. Again, ask specific questions about these topics and re-examine your reasons...

People who want the benefits of India (like meeting parents, buying land, giving good secondary school education etc..), will always come and use India. This will never change. Murali [/quote] NYT correspondent quote: "Delhi has high levels of pollution". Fact: "Central Pollution Control Board located in Delhi has issued a statement indicating extremely high levels of pollution in the Delhi air". Life: Promotion of multiculturalism

Ghettoes or Multiculturism: ...The point about ghettoes is well raised. It reminded me of my experiences in New Delhi, where certain communities gravitated towards certain parts of the city that had more members of that community. Even in USA, there are some so called 'Punjabi','Gujarati' or 'South Indian' dominated communties for example. This is not limited to Indians. I know Cantonese and Mandarin speaking Chinese tend to move towards their own brethren too, for example. I would argue that the little Italy's and little Portugal's also came about for the same reason, and people irrespective of colour have an affinity for what they consider their own. What disturbs me is that once these communities form, t...

...kely that some of the pertinent questions could finally be answered and the decision examined under the Indian Constitution. On Friday, the Supreme Court came down hard on the government and refused to entertain its request to put on hold petitions pending in various high courts challenging the decision to scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 bank notes. The apex court is right. A decision that affects every Indian's life without going through the necessary legislative process — debate, deliberation and vote — ought to be seriously examined. The other two pillars of a democracy — the legislature and the judiciary — must be given an opportunity to scrutinise an executive decision with huge ...
