The 31st edition of the Toronto festival, which will screen 352 feature films, documentaries and shorts, has one of the biggest number of films from people of Indian origin this year. While the likes of Rani Mukerji and Brad Pitt will share the limelight at Toronto, a 21-year-old Australian director of Indian origin could get a lot of media attention as well. When Murali K Thalluri arrives at Toronto, the Australian filmmaker may speak about how he made his controversial suicide drama 2:37 for about $500,000 when he was...

Competition is intense and positions are few, as there is one company selling one drug (due to patent protection) unlike the Indian industry where you would find 100 brands of Ciprofloxacin. Also, due to the recent mergers of Pfizer-Wyeth and Schering Plough-Merck, there will be a lot of experienced, unemployed marketing and sales people looking for jobs. Last week, Bayer in Etobicoke laid off hundreds of people. majority of them salespeople. One way that immigrants can get around this barrier is to gain entry in a company in a dif...

The Indian consulate charges a fee to register death and there are even more charges to carry ashes to India. You need permission from airline as well and copies of cremation certificate as well . Some airlines do allow carrying of ashes as hand luggage provided they are in a hematically sealed box which is how they are provided by the funeral home. Visiting, Traveling and Picnicing: questions regarding planning to visit India

...ht from Mumbai to my hometown from Canada? >>>>>You can try both travel agents and online. Jet, Air Deccan, Sahara, Indian Airlines, etc all allow online booking. What are the issues I confront at Mumbai? like going from International to domestic air port; >>>>>>>>>>Nothing serious really. Immigration and customs have been organized extremely well and happens fast. You simply pick your bags, follow signs to the shuttle bus, take the shuttle to the domestic terminal and you are all set. You do not have to leave the airport bldg in search of the shuttle and that has made things safer. Also, the shuttle does not go outside of the airpo...

...Dubai, Dec 28 : India Tuesday reiterated its stand that it would not accept permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council without veto power. :) Visiting Indian External Affairs Minister K. Natwar Singh announced this at a news conference here shortly after the United Arab Emirates (UAE) expressed support for New Delhi's bid to obtain permanent membership in the UN body. "Our Prime Minister (Manmohan Singh) has already made it clear that any discrimination in the enlarged group of permanent members in the Security Council wi...

My question is if he has to pay any tax on Rs 22,00,000 which he generates from agri. production in India? There is no tax imposed by Indian govt on that income? Please note that Rs 22,00,000 is not taxable in India. Then will this be taxable in Canada? Is it clear now? [/quote] In my opinion, he is then a non-resident for tax purposes and does not have to declare worldwide income in Canada. As I stated before, when withdrawals are made, he should then declare Canada source income. Also, there is a section on the tax form that asks for the date one l...

Then if you are lucky to get an aprtment then you cant ignore the neighbourhood. You must have a bus, train near your aprtment , school and Indian grocery store. Without these life will be hell in inital places. Also some neighbourhoods have high crimes and hence cheaper. I suggest that if you are coming first time then, if you have relatives here tell them to arrange a floor or apartment in a house where owners live already. These houses are safe, monitored and 99% free of drugs. If you dont know anyon...

My advise: ... does not have the variety of goods found in the GTA's walmart. Not much scope for all around development. Though RIM is the best company in Canada, the perks , incentives is no way comparable to that of that given in some IT companies in the GTA or USA. There is no free food, no relaxing spots in the office etc.. Also though it is a Canada no . 1 company, you will be working with desi's who are B.com with a course in IT and hence be faced with cheap mentalities at your work place. there is no one there with IIT BE comp. sci or REC Comp. sci or USA Educated Comp sci. or waterloo educated comp. sci. (except interns or summer job people) there. So it is not hi-fi as you may assume. RIM ent...

It is hard road he is taking by standing against the people in power and bigwigs . It is not an easy job for an honest person to survive in a corruption laden environment .
