Dear Friends
I am about to register for the Immigration to Canada. I am 25 years old and have done Mphil in Economics. Soon after reaching,perhaps after acquiring the citizenship, I plan to take loan from the Canadian government to do a master's programme in economics(preferably environment economics or health economics) from the US so that I could get a job in the US itself. Eventually I would settle down in the US.
I take the Canadian route as I heard from my relatives in the US that going through Canada is the fastest and easiest way to settle in the US than from India.
How practical is this plan? Do you think it is a good plan? I request you to share your comments and opinion on this.

Do you think Canadian govt. or Canadian people are so fool that they will spend/loan money for person who donot have intention to live in Canada?
First of all go through US immigration policy and new hurdles perm labor/485 issues to think in settle in US.

First, you do not have to wait for your citizenship to get study loan.
Second, study loan is available only for studies carried out in Canada.

Could you please ask your relatives to give some more details explaining how “going through Canada is the fastest and easiest way to settle in the US”?
A lot of people here would be keen to know that and it would be great service to the community.

This is a grey area. I have heard OSAP may actually fund part of the fees for studies abroad. This is the answer someone I know got when they called up.
Untested as of now and I am sure there must be conditions attached.

mercury6 You are partially right.
Institutions not in Canada are eligible only for the "Canada portion of the Canada-Ontario Integrated Student Loan" and not the Ontario part.
OSAP has a list of over 4000 schools enrollment in which makes one eligible for loans.

I think you are on the right track. This is what I did, but instead of moving to US, I choose to stay here in Canada with good job. Start searching for good universities and master programs. Once you complete one year in Canada you will get OSAP and scholarship from the university.

1. You are 25 now and are thinking of registering for Canada Immigration
2. You apply , get immigration , and land - another 3-4 years
3. You land complete 3 years, apply for citizenship ( min 1 year ) - about 4.5 yrs
4. You apply and go to US, which means you would be about 34-35 yrs.
5. So Canada is the fastest route.. eh?
6. Are all Indians going to US coming through Canada?
7. Do you have an idea of the timelines involved in your plan
8. If so, are you prepared to invest the best part of your life (25-35 yrs) in Canada?
9. Are you confident that 10 years down the line , you will still be ready to study?
