Yes, the exam has changed as of today (Sep 26th). The syllabus has expanded and the passing % has increased.
The new exam is based on the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK) v3. This is the official book by the PMI. In addition to this book you will need some other study material.
Eligibility criteria to appear for the PMP
1. 35 contact hours - ie 35 hours of project management related education. It's like a 5 day course. (This can even be done online for like US$150)
2.
You have a bachelors degree from one of the countries that PMI recognizes (and yes, India is on the list) + 4500 hrs of project management related experience in the last 6 years (it's almost 3 years @ 150 hrs/mth)
OR
If you do not have a bachelors degree, then you need 7,500 hrs of PM related experience.
For the PM related experience, you do not have to be a Manager or hold any such title. As long as you have performed one or many duties of a Project Manager (as stipulated by PMI), then you'd qualify
The new exam is 200 questions multiple choice (WITHOUT negative marking). Of that 25 questions are sample questions, and do not count towards your exam. These come up in random and on the exam you cannot tell which are those 25 q's. From the balance 175 q's, you need 141 correct to pass the exam, so ineffect you need 141/175, the trick is out of 200 questions which are the 175 q's, you won't know.
If you need more details, get in touch with me. I'll PM you my contact details.

I am also in the process of getting certified, and might appear for examination sometime in Dec'05 or Jan'06.
I just have to get the required 35 PDUs and a rigorous practise is required for exam type Q&A.
One Good web site (I found interesting and it is accredited by PMI as well a REP) and also very cheap cosdidering the competitors in the market is;
http://www.pmcampus.com" rel="nofollow">LINK
This company/organization is based in Montreal Canada.
.I found this site very useful, and plannig to register from Nov1st 2005.
(Since they have all online courses and access to the site is limited to 3 months only)
I feel one should complete reading PMBOK guide book thoroughly and then join this site, sure will be benefited.
check this out and let me know.
