I was called for a Job interview in a Desi Bank having a branch here.(I had worked in India in a Bank for some years before leaving for the USA).
In the interview I was asked, how many kids I have, what they were doing, what my husband was doing, etc etc. I was feeling very uncomfortable with the personal questions. There were a few other normal interview questions also. Also I was asked whether I know Punjabi. I said, that I knew Hindi, but not Punjabi. I was told that I have to learn Punjabi. I said ok. When the interview was over, and as I was leaving I was asked for my date of birth, which really made me mad. I still do not understand why such a question was asked. The job pays $8/ for the work of Teller/Clerk.
:(

$ 8 per hour..? For a banking job ..? THat too in a Desi Bank .
When it comes to exploiting new immigrants in GTA , everybody is the same including Desis .

What do some of the members who mention that they are exploited by Canada have to say to this exploitation by a Desi Bank in GTA 'Canada.'

As I mentioned many times, If you want a better life get out of Toronto .

Some people do not know what to ask in an interview.
And your date of birth would already have been there in your CV.
However, no use getting upset about people asking stupid questions.
Being stupid is as natural as being wise.

In Northern America, the resume style is different. No one writes their date of birth.

NO WONDER they asked you to learn Punjabi :D Still, that's better than having to learn Mandarin, the Second Official Language of Vancouver (know what the 1st language is?? 3 guesses :p )

Hmm... Just because it is a desi bank, that doesn't mean that they can probe your personal life. They should be operating under Canadian Law. And given that, they were out of their limits to ask you about your kids, husband (unless u actively brought up family life), and then last but not least, ur age. Maybe the interveiwer had the hots for u ;) But that's really unprofessional behaviour! I wouldn't work in that bank if I were you. And certainly not for $8!! From a few people I know here in GTA who have that position, the pay rate should be anywhere above $12 atleast(depending on experience after that). What a rip-off!

Or maybe you should get ur foot in, and start hunting for another job ASAP and get out as soon as you land one. You can atleast use this bank for reference point. I wouldn't suggest any long term stay.
