If this was written by a white guy, everyone here would be calling him sexist and racist. And if I had come across your post on the Internet and found out that you working for me, I would have referred you to diversity training and/or consulted legal advisor for your termination as you will expose any North American employer to lot of pain.

I have experienced as an employer/supervisor that my subortinates who had happy and settled family lives have been more productive workers than those having problems at home. Infact my worst employee has been a separated lady who was highly experienced in her work, very good too - but with a terribble relationship with her not-yet-divorced husband. She was adrupt in office many a times due to calls from her husband, and reacted in a very rough manner on such occassions where she would start complaining if she was asked to alter or correct some letter or invoice prepared by her during those times.

Thought it was in GTA which is usually known for such rip offs.
Vancouver , GTA , Montreal - Looks like all these 3 big cities are the same..

High rents
Low wages
High competition
high auto insurance rates
too many desis in one place..competing with each other rather than with Canadians..

Imo Montreal does not belong to the mix

housing is cheaper in Montreal
Wages are comparable(atleast in my field)
auto insurance is cheaper than TO.

Taxes are a bit higher though...quebecors are probably the highest taxed Canadians.

Cantonese much spoken in HK and Mandarin mainly mainland China. There is one big province in China where 20 diff dialects and languages speaking.
Asking Indian Chinese, they are spoking diff chinese from HK, Beijing.

Also inside China many plenty languages.
like tolding both Hindi and Punjabi is "Indian". making sense to you?
Maybe Tamil and Hindi is 'Indian'?
So why ask if Mandarin and Cantonese both Chinese? One is one other is other.
And for us to tolding that one is language and other is dialect is insulting for those people.

How Punjabi liking agar mein tolding them that 'oh bhai, Hindi language hai, Punjabi dialect hai... baap re bahut sara lafda...

I agree with Chandresh that SOME personal details are important in the hiring process. The problem arises when TOO MUCH personal info is being requested. The law is stupid in not differentiating between the two cases.

There are literally a thousand ways an interviewer can get you to divulge personal details. If he cannot get the information from you he will NOT hire you. When there are a thousand resumes on his desk he can pick and choose. You can talk law but the ugly truth is that HE DOES NOT CARE. He can give a very legal reason for not hiring you.
