Pyare Bhai bandhus,
I am holding a valid study permit , but my visa expired almost a year ago!
I want to visit India in december for less than a month. Now as you know, I will need a visa to enter Canada, so I am planning to apply for the same while I am in India.
Please tell me, how long does it normally take to get the visa from India (given that I hold a valid study permit).
Happy Thanksgiving!!!

My suggestion is to get the visa first and then fly for india. Chances are there visa officer in india may or may not grant visa.
Get your visa stamped from buffalo, canadian embassy. Hope this helps you.
I have thought about that too, but my problem is that before coming to Canada, I had applied for a US student visa. I didn't get the visa and the reason given to me was that I am a potential immigrant.
Now I have a couple of friends here in Vancouver who were in the similar situation, and when they applied for a US visitor visa (which is needed to enter US obviously), they were denied on the basis that they didn't have strong ties in Canada and that they should apply only after becoming a permanent resident.
Given this fact, if the same happens with me, then I would have no choice but to do it in India !!!

You can send your application for visa by mail to buffalo. It is not necessary to go personally and get visa stamped, But yes it is true , that they may ask you to come for interview if they are satisfied with your application. And in that case, Many rejected students have got visitor visa for USA.
It is your decision now....

I twisted a fact when I said in my first post that I hold a valid study permit. Actually I have applied for the extension of my study permit in the first week of September, and am expecting to receive it anytime soon.
Anyway, what adds fuel to the problem is the time taken to process a visa application when applying through mail (i.e sending my passport to buffalo or Seattle). One of my friends did the same and his process took more than 2 months.
I want to travel to India around 15th December. Lets say I get my study permit in October and am also able to send my application for the visa by October end. I will only have about 45-50 days before I travel to India. Now if something goes wrong during this time and if the process gets elongated, I would be in trouble!!!
I don't wanna take that chance , so I am thinking of applying in India only. That's why I was asking if someone has any experience of applying for a visa in India , especially with a valid study permit.
Since I will have less than a month's time in India, is it feasible to apply for the visa there?
