Well, I'd used western union to send money to india.

Anyways, how about state bank of india
They have 2 branches in Toronto.
one is downtown just accross my work on bay & wellington
second one is in mississauga.

I am sure if you get a DD in favor of SBI canada, it can be encashed here.

It appears from the post that you want to transfer local Indian Rupees since you do not even have a NRI account. OFFICIALLY YOU CANNOT DO it except for some specified cases like medical treatment/education (I am not sure for that) since officially, local Indian Rupee (something which was not converted into Indian Rupee from foreign currency).

The only other official way is to ask someone travelling from India to buy it at the airport but that I think is restricted to US$ 2,000. another official way is there - but almost impossible to find - if someone has gone to India and converted some money to use there (for whatever purpose). He is allowed to buy INR upto the amount he had converted. A non resident is allowed to go into India without declaring foreign currency amount of upto US$ 10,000 but he needs to have a proof of official conversion into INR, to enable him to buy it back.

They were the official ways - there are lot of unofficial ways too. In case you want to do it, express it and some people might enlighten you/ help you!

All the best!

the only possible way is hawala. Every other way is illegal and can not be done.
Hawala is illegal of course
