Though I am not a gujrati, could understand the jist of it. It is nice one!

The best thing was about staying separately in India (away from parents) and sharing in Canada. How true!

However, I do not fully agree with Sari and slacks things - or say trousers and Pajama-kurta. Till date (and it has been three years), whenever I visit my Indian friends, and my friends visit me (including occassional non-Indian), I make it a point to put on my Indian kurta-pajama - even in severe winters! It is this tradition that I believe in and want to pass it on to my children.

Hi GG,

You have given the 'English Text' but not the 'English Translation' and hence we Non-Gujarati speaking people can not understand and enjoy this post completely.

Please provide either the 'English' or if possible 'Hindi' Translation of the post.

Thanks.

This reminds me of what my gujarati friend said to me that if Beaver or the maple leaf were not the national symbol of Canada the best choice would have been the \"Safety Shoe\".

May be somebody down the road would start a movement to officially get acceptance for the Safety Shoe as a national symbol !.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....

"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

A very humorous light side of immigrant life.

A not light nor serious but very interesting Real-Life situation can be had from Sudha Murty's Book - Dolar Bahu - in half a dozen languages.
