Hi

I am currently working in US for an Indian Multinational company and looking at various options I have for migrating to East/West.

Want to know if any of you are Permanent Residents of Singapore. What is the process involved in applying for a PR to Singapore.

Thank you in advance for your Help

While the information should be easily available on the web, here is the jist of it.

Unlike Canada/Australia etc., Singapore does not provide PR for migration TO the country unless it is on investment basis.

Basically there are three kinds of PR provided in Singapore:

1. As an individual on the basis of academic/professional experience merit. For this, one has to first have worked in Singapore for a locally registered organization as an employment pass holder for a minimum of six months. This is the most common way of getting a PR.

2. As an investor – I do not know what the $ requirement now is, but earlier when some of my friends took it, it was S$ 1.5 million (about US$880,000). One has to invest that money in pre-approved projects (including real estate like residence or office space, with a limit on amount – though real estate might not be an approved investment any more).

3. As a family member – child born to a PR or person married to a PR.

Also note that in Singapore the main applicant gets the primary PR and the family gets dependent PR. This means that if the primary PR is lost for any reason, the dependent automatically loses his/her PR status.

Singapore also works on a ‘re-entry permit’ system which means that a PR has to apply for a Re-entry permit if he/she wants to travel out of Singapore. This permit is issued for a fixed period, usually 5 years, and is renewable under some conditions specially in the case of option 1, where the main condition is “the person should be under a gainful employment in Singapore” (which does not necessarily mean physically employed in Singapore – could be employed overseas by a Singapore organization which pays for its services).

Hope the above helps.
