I recall that when I landed the Customs guy told me 2 get the list of goods later if I had nt come permanently. I remember not having submitted one. I am counting on this 1 when I land finally.
Manasvi.
Manasvi,
I read the website for Canada Customs. It states that you have to submit the list of things to follow within 40 days of landing. You may check this out. (http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca)
LD,
The definition of resident is different for Immigration and Tax purpose. Though I have a bank account, I am not liable to pay tax, since I have not landed permanently.
Cheers,
Thanks for the info GFO.
Ur having a bank account initiates & validates your 'ties with Canada' making it obligatory 2 submit tax returns and include ur world income. Since this is debatable , kindly search the charcha section for 'ties with canada'.This has been dscsd b4.

Hello Everyone,
I moved back to Canada, early May. At customs, the Officer asked me if I was a returning resident and had a list of things to follow.
I presented tle full list of items which I have actually shipped now (this list was different from the one which I had submitted when I did my landing in 2003). The Custom Officer has stamped the new list and told me that I will not have to pay any custom duties.
This means that you can submit a new list of items to follow if you are a returning resident.
Regards
Wow GFOracle ,
Thats some good encouraging info u ve posted for guys like me who were in the limbo since the 40 day rule though even I recall the Customs guy telling me that I cud get a list when I came in permanently.
But thanks for posting in the info. Wud u mind sharing how much time it took for the cargo and what are the storage charges @ Toronto if u arent able to recive the cargo quickly.

Hi ,
I have an interesting update on the goods to follow list late submission .
I had landed in 2003 and did not submit a list of goods as I was landing only for 5 days. I finally landed in 2006 and carried a List of Goods to follow .
The Immigration person directed me to the Customs who did not stamp the list as it was 'incomplete ' (hand written and w/o prices). I was really afraid that I had probably lost the final chance given.
When I called the Customs from Toronto they directed me to a Customs Office where I submitted a complete Goods to Follow list and got it stamped 10 days upon arrival. I later used this stamped list when my shipment arrived.
So there is the provision of submitting a List of Goods to Follow even later but as the officer advised - it is a 'one time shot' .
