Family of two planning to land in toronto as permanent resident. Need a place to stay for a week.
One place http://www.sunnynewcomer.com" rel="nofollow">LINK (don mills and eglinton ave / don mills and finch) advertises itself as providing services for newcomers
eg. place to stay ($28 and up) / SIN / health card application etc.
Any feedback on this place will be useful. The price seems to be very attractive but am wondering if there is a catch there (bad neighborhood, unhygenic place ?)
Other places that I could find were on http://www.apartments2book.com/toronto.htm
where studio / 1 bedroom apartments are available for 60 canadian dollars and up.
Any recommendations on stay will be welcome. If possible, I will try to use public transport so a place near subway / bus transport will be useful
Thanks

Hi

I also have the same type of question in my mind before coming here..But, donot worry things are not that hard here. just when you come out of Airport there will be Indian taxi driver ask them to show you a few hotels. they may charge 30 dollars intead of 25 but you will save much more then 5 dollrs in night stay if you decide after seeing the hotels this way..

Also, donot worry about the transportion from Hotel as you can ask from the hotel staff etc.. there are local busses and trams and subways etc.. some time you can fix the time and fare etc withthe first taxi driver also for next couple of days..

you will find the ways easy when you travel after first time on them..

There should be few classified on this site providing temp stay. One is Uncle Pritam, and I think our Plastic Man stayed there.

I have recently arrived and would like to share my experience with Uncle Pritam whose reference I gathered from Canadiandesi.com .

From India it is quite warming to feel that there s a person ready to pick you up from the Airport and provide you a place to stay .But please be aware that you will be charged good for sub standard services and fail to get value for money paid .

You pay $500/- to stay in a dingy basement room sharing the room with 2-3 others on bunk beds and unhygeinic conditions which also prevail in the wash room and kitchen . Only advantage is that you get Indian food once a day and have the company of new 'trapped' Immigrants who are also searching for a new alternative.

You are better off at Sunny Newcomer Services (www.sunnynewcomer.com) or Barry House (www.barryhouse.net) which provide you much more better facilities (private roomsand all ) at similar prices . I felt cheated at Uncle Pritams after staying here.
