It is awesome. It's an intense political drama. Not much of violence shown. I liked it so much that I saw it back to back (DVD). Only one song (abt 2 minutes?) with an item number (who's that new chikni?).
Nana Patekar is just great. Ajay Devgan and Ayub Khan has done very good job ably supported by Yashpal Sharma and Mohan Agashe. Bipasha Basu has nothing much to do (which is good since she can't act).
Overall great stuff. Prakash Jha has done it again. This is even better than Gangajal. If u like serious cinema, dont miss it.
Hi,
It is made so nicely, and excellent grip is maintained , you just cannot leave your sight off screen.
I wonder how does he obtain the story, it appears so very real, and imagine this existing in a small town in UP.
It is so frustrating for honest police officers, imagine the price they are paying for their honesty, you really wonder can such police officers exist in real life who is honest, and sincere to this extent.
MUST SEE FOR ALL

i saw apharan last nite and didnt like it that much. maybe becoz i saw it after having already seen sarkaar. i think sarkaar was more of a reality movie and a real thriller and kept one on the edge till the very end.. the mind game played in sarkaar was excellent. on the other hand apharan makes u feel like u want to just get over with it. its a film about a society gone over the brink and its all gunda raj. i was wondering instead of so many kidnappings, why not just enter ppl's homes and ask for money at gun point. it wud save them the expense of all the middle men.
Sarkaar is one serious movie i wud recommend every one to watch.its a far more complex jigsaw of patriarchal intensity.the ethical complexities goes beyond politics.it might be a take off on God father, but it still a must watch.

This movie is based on reality existing in Bihar. One of my business associate moved from Patna to Surat with their business because his sister was kidnapped for ransom. They were fortunate enough becuase his sister came back without any physical harm to her. Their first reaction was to wind up business in Patna and move out to a safer destination. Probably they were not physically or mentally strong enough to protect themselves. This incident is almost 15 years old but still Bihar is in similar situation it appears to be like that from Apaharan.
