For landed immigrants - who already landed here but have not got residency yet, should go for this new PR Card.

People who have completed the Canadian immigration process and have obtained permanent resident status, but are not Canadian citizens can apply for the Card. The Card replaces the IMM 1000 as the status document needed by Canadian permanent residents re-entering Canada on a commercial carrier (airplane, boat, train and bus) starting December 31, 2003.

1980 to 1987 August 2003
1973 to 1979 September 2003
Previous to 1973 October 2002
Based on web-site information I am little confused. For above timetable they says - processing schedule, it is not application schedule. Does this mean that you can apply anytime but you will get it only during the above time period?
Not sure, anyone has any idea?

Ok, I read it further, it says that you should submit your application, so that it can reach during specified period.
Yes, you have to submit application by mail.

I disagree to paying 50 dollars for PR card. We have already paid almost 1500 dollars to Govt. for landing fee and visa processing fee. I strongly oppose this fee.
I have already wrote a letter to the Member of Parliament opposing the fee. We all must do the same.
To get this card is not compulsory, if you don't want to pay for it, don't go for it.
Only thing you can not cross the border. This is my understanding, but it might be wrong.
I agree that when we already have paid money for landing, then why should government charge again. We all should protest it.

After 31 December, 2003, any landed immigrant without the PR Card [Maple Leaf Card] won't be allowed to board aircraft/train/ship destined to Canada. The same applies if he/she attempts to cross the US-Can Border by a commercial carrier. Crossing by foot or non-commercial vehicle is exempt.
