Can I use my IMM 1000 to travel to the US in my own car?

Yes. As of December 31, 2003, the PR card will be required to re-enter Canada by commercial carrier (airplane, boat, train or bus). This requirement does not apply if you are travelling by private vehicle. You should contact the US immigration services about their document requirements.

Many landed immigrants who find themselves outside Canada and with no PR Card [Maple Leaf Card] yet, will have to enter US and then drive/walk to Canada with their IMM1000 [the old landing paper].

The alternative is to contact the embassy/consulate nearest to you [or responsible for your region] and apply for temporary travel doc.

I think the deadline will have to be extended [it's only my guess & hope].

I too think they will extend the deadline. Inspite of all the advance warnings and notices they had given, there are still thousands of residents who have not applied or have not received the card. The end of christmas season is surely going to test the system.

What a waste! Hundreds of thousands of people have paid 50 dollars each for this stupid card. I am not counting the cost of photographs, signatures and time. These guys want you to go in person to collect the card during office hours - losing your daily wage... I am outraged!!!

Mr. Massod
Willl you please clarify about the pr card for me. I wll tell you my case.
I have got the permanent resident visa from Canadian high Commission, New Delhi recently and shall be moving to Canada for the first time in January2004. But I am likely to stay in Canada for a week time due to some personal problem and return to india in January2004. Is it ncessary that I should wait for the PR card to be issued to me in order to comeback again to Canada in Feburary2004. Should I collect before return to India for a short visit to attend to some family problem or only apply for the PR Card at the time of landing and collect in my next visit in Feburary2004. How much time normally it takes to get the PR Card issued to new immigrant? Is it to be collected personally or they send by mail to the address given at the time of landing.
Please respond immidiately.
Regards

kalia:

if you searched and read other threads, you would have got your answers right away.

However, PR card will be mailed to the address you provide upon landing [approx. 4-5 weeks].
- you may leave Canada without PR card but you'll need it to re-enter Canada [actually you'll need it to board your plane]
