Hi there,
My spouse got a letter from the Canadian High Commission in New-Delhi which went somethign like this...
'As the next step in the processing of your application, please send your
original valid passport and 2 photos if not already provided'
Nothing is mentioned regarding the current status of the application.
My question(s)
(a) What could be the current status of the application?
(b) If I remember correctly, a few years back the High Commission issued a document, and was not doing anything (stamping) to the passport. Has this changed because of the new PR card concept?
(c) If the application is approved how long does it usually take for the stamping and returning the passport. Basically, can the high commission keep the passport for a long time. Are there some guidlines on how long they can keep the passport?
Thanks in advance.
RS
a) Decision made
b) yes it has changed
c) 1 month or so [total processing time in New Delhi is averaging 10 weeks - from start to finish]

My spousal application is complete. My spouse got her passport back with the visa stamped today :) . This is a great website with valuable information. I hope the details of my application help's future sponsors.
I sponsored my spouse's immigration from outside Canada (spouse in India). Please note these are business days (does not include holidays and weekends)
Day 1: Application received by CPC in Missi. ON.
Day 14: File opened, sponsorship approved (decision made) and case forward to embassy abroad (in my case New-Delhi)
Day 18: I (sponsor) received an acknowlegment from CPC with the client ID for the applicaiton and the status of the sponsorship and the decision taken on day 14. (From this day onwards I was able to check the status of the application on the CIC online services website)
Day 30: Spouse in India received acknowlegement that CHC in New-Delhi has received the application and provided the File Number (e.g. B12345678). This letter also requested additional documents in our case it was spouse's passport and 2 photographs if not already provided. (This was a computer generated letter and did not give any status of the application)
Day 34: CHC New-Delhi receives the required documents - my spouse's passport.
Day 35: Spouse receives a letter (dated Day32) giving the status of the application. (Stated all requirements were met and the application has been approved.) Requesting for the passport (again). No action taken by spouse as passport had already been sent.
Day 39: Spouse receives passport and other required documents. Also returned were some of the documents that were filed alongwith the application (e.g. wedding photographs)
Hope this helps! Keep up the good work.
:) RS
