Is anybody following the story of Dr. Chandra on CBC national recently?

http://www.cbc.ca/national/news/chandra/

This guy, a doctor in an NF university, managed to get million dollars for research funding. He published false papers. Before he could get caught, he managed to escpae to Switzerland. The university could not lay any charges against him. He has 120 accounts in Swiss banks. He got nominated twice for Nobel prize.

At same time, I believe Canadian law should try to seal it loopholes.

He is now promoting his vitamin business in India.

It hurts to see such people giving a bad name to India

By instilling a generalization in people's mind that Indian doctors have a tendency to be corrupt, despite of what the reality is...

IMHO, the ones who should be getting a bad name is the medical institute (I think it was?) who let his shenanigans go on even when they seemed to know he was going the right way for fraud! :cuss:

I didnt get that from this particular article..which focused on the individual and his institution. As you said, the institution reinforced his behavior and that can affect their rep.

I think corruption can exist anywhere..any profession. It seems to be a matter of control - what do you think? Unfortunately some people seem to want to abuse their power...
